For when we give ourselves the label of “too late” or “too old”

For when we give ourselves the label of “too late” or “too old”:

Have you ever studied expiration dates? You may know that years after the expiration date, some products are still just as usable as the first day. The reason they give a date earlier than that is so you will throw it out and buy a new one.
If we buy into the idea that our opportunities have expired, we are throwing away our belief in ourselves and buying more ideas that we are not good enough.
We are not expired yet. We are not walking around expired before we die.
Morgan Freeman landed his first big movie role at age 52. Louise Hay started Hay House Publishing at age 60. There is a woman named Masako Wakamiya who is 82 years old, just learned how to code in the past year, and is creating her first app.
Tell me again how you’re too old and it’s too late for you.
I am talking to myself as well. Especially in the entertainment industry when young looks are what sells. Models and dancers are set to expire after age 22. Hang out around actors and comedians and even though they can be of any age, you will likely often find yourself surrounded by a bunch of early twenty somethings.
The best way I know to soften those loud objections into a soft whisper-study people who accomplished what you want to accomplish later in life.
I have a friend who makes amazing jewelry pieces. She’s in her early 30s and she’ll say “The successful jewelry makers I know are in their 40s, so I have a ten year goal, I am on the right track”. I have a gal pal who’s dream is to be making the big bucks dressing people up. People tell her it’s not possible. She says “Rachel Zoe is making millions, why not me? She’s 45, so I have time”.
If we study people who accomplished what we want, we are washing away the limiting beliefs that we pick up from our daily interactions. Just like a shower daily, we need to wash off the yuck of the day, and it is best we do it regularly. Who would want to catch the common cold, or even the common beliefs? Gross.
Remember the substance of who are over the style we are being taught. The style is that we are too old. The substance is someone with capabilities, endless resources, and the realization that we can do anything at any age without anyone’s permission.

Does Social Media Bring Us Together or Tear Us Apart?

Tweet: I am testing this click to tweet.

Social media gets a bad wrap for tearing us apart. It gets blamed for the cause of wrecks and creating false perceptions of ourselves. Well, the same could be said for driving while applying lip stick–it distracted us and we used it for our image while operating a vehicle.

Social media offers amazing resources we never had before. I want to inspire eyes to widen and relax. I want to inspire hearts to open. Let’s refine our palettes to the new day and age.

Selfies-Can be used for vanity, yes. Alternative uses can be to share our experiences of what’s going on in our day.

Followers and likes- Many people are using this for ego. Before followers and likes, ego was still there and something else was being used. Ever been around high school cliques, and adult version of high school cliques? Some people use likes as knowing this is a way for our friends and families to say “Hey, I’m listening. I an glad you’re having fun on vacation. I am keeping in touch with you”‘

Followers and Friends- Can be used for a false sense of popularity and importance. Can be used to make a difference in that many more people’s lives.

Facebook Groups-Can be used for spamming and bashing. Can be used to connect with people who share feelings and interests we share that we never had access to before the internet. It’s as simple as typing in what you want and hitting “Request to join”. Do you know what it would have taken before to find these people if ever even having a chance to? They’d have to travel the world and maybe not find them.

SnapChats-Very short blurbs of conversation or video. Can be used to compare your life to theirs and get depressed at how happy they seem. Can be used as a source of inspiration to aspire to that person’s level of success and excitement, can be used to be exposed to possibilities.

Twitter-Can be used by celebrities to throw quick insults at each other.
Can be used to quickly share daily blurbs and make people laugh.

Pinterest-Can be used as an addiction to list many projects, maybe purchase many craft materials that never get done. Can be used to actually complete the art projects and master our own crafts 🙂

I could go on and on. I could start a never ending facebook thread about it for us all to contribute our different uses 😉 So is social media a bad habit we should all wish away? Or could it be an amazing gift? We get to decide. We get to be true to ourselves or not.

We are not yet run by robots like the Sci-Fi shows have made us anticipate. They can only run us if we let them.

🌸Choose the substance of who we are over the style we are being taught.🌸

13 Quotes for Living an Intentional Life by Deepak Chopra

1) “Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.”

Award Winning Mixologist For A Day

Today, I got paid $200 for about 3 1/2 hours worth of “work”…Also known in my world as “play”.

We are greeted by a man with a fun patterned shirt and a London accent. He greets each of us enthusiastically knowing that even though we just think we’ve come for a work day, a traditional focus group he’s about to awaken us into an experience of senses.

A national renown mixologist and local bartendar comes in to share with us the basics of what goes into drink making. Her professionalism, passion, and vocabulary set her world’s apart from the experience I had in Bartending School. I realized I wasn’t simply here to memorize recipes and throw them together. I was learning the SCIENCE and ART, the TOOLS to fly off the handle and be my own creater.

We are teamed up into pairs to create.

We create a drink called Mellow Morning and Black Walnut Raspberry Cola. We get third place and as a prize we get a brand new recipe book probably worth about $50. Lunch is treated to us–a powerfoods salad that includes a delicious well cooked and locally grown steak, and we leave with thank you gifts–really nice cocktail shakers, so that we can go into the world, and create! We are treated with respect and gratitude, and their team treats us not like we are smaller but as people who are helping them find out whatever they need to find out for their client.

This gig goes along with my values: to have fun, to work with people who treat each other like a team, and inspire you not from an ego of “I’m bigger than you, I’m the boss of you” but from the idea that leaders create leaders, and also with my value of being a creator every single day. Decide what values are important to you to bring into your experience, and you can find work that really inspires you, or atleast keeps you from snoring. 😉

“My Life Will Suck Until My Dreams Come True”-True or False?

…I tried. I really did.

I tried to sit in an office, 45 hours a week, surrounded by dull lackluster conversation and a monotonous energy. I bought into the idea that I had to do work that I hated and that bored me to financially support me as I build my dreams. But…I just…couldn’t…do it…anymore.

I read books about achieving success and completed programs to help brainwash me to success. I joined online support groups and went to local meetings to help give me that push that I needed. And it helped for sure!! But…it wasn’t enough.

I know people do it, but everyone’s journey is different. My journey involves creating mini visions like the way the Waze app celebrates with you with random prizes on the way to your destination. I don’t want to be utterly bored when I’m driving and not when I’m living my life to day to day either. Waze has the concept down–it’s in the journey, not the destination!

“My life will suck until my dreams come true”….Okay…do you know what your life purpose is? If you don’t, how long do you plan on it taking to find out? Some people search for a lifetime. Do you want to stay in that job until you retire and then make time to find out? Could take a year. Could take a few weeks. Would you like to take that gamble?

If you do know your purpose, or at least have a higher vision for yourself, congratulations! Not everyone gets that far. But how long will it take you to get to that top? We can follow traditional goal setting advice and have a statement that “By [insert date here], I will have quit my job and be making [insert cash amount here] monthly with my own business”. I’m not saying it’s bad advice…I’m just saying….I see it all. the. time. ESPECIALLY newbie entrepreneurs will say “Oh it will only take me 6 months to get established, and then I’ll be up and running!”. Well, unrealistic optimism is a necessary trait for an entrepreneur and trailblazer, so bravo! But those people may take a year to two years to five or even more until they get on their feet. I watch them and praise them for their success, but this is a warning to you.

How much room do you have in your life for unhappiness?

What if you found out today that you had a deathly disease and only had three months to live? What would become important to you? What values would become important to  you that you are not focused on right now? Would you make more time for your family and loved ones? Would you take more risks? Would you choose your daily schedule to be different than right now?

“My Life Will Suck Until My Dreams Come True”-True or False?  We decide.

I urge you as an SOS to reflect on these questions if they are resonating with you. Remember the substance of who we are over what we’re being taught.©️️ Only you know what you’re made of and what you really need.
